
Stop One Broken Lamp from Killing Your Whole Batch
If you’re running a high-load fab, you know the nightmare scenario. One single lamp bursts, and suddenly your entire batch of wafers is scrap. It’s not just that the heat stops. It’s the aftermath. A failed quartz tube basically turns into a glass grenade, showering your production line with shards and tiny particles. That’s a mess nobody wants to clean up. We build our infrared lamps specifically to stop that from happening. Why tubes actually fail Most of the time, it comes down to thermal stress or a leaky seal. When you’re pushing high loads, the temperature gap between the glowing filament and the cooled ends is massive. It’s a lot of pressure on the material. To fight this, we use heavy-wall fused quartz. It’s tough. It doesn’t warp when you cycle it on and off all day. But we don’t stop there. We add a protective sleeve or a shatter-resistant coating. Think of it like a safety net. If the inner quartz does snap, the coating holds the pieces together. The debris stays put, and your wafers stay clean. Keeping the power steady You also have to watch your electricity. If you have current spikes, you’re just asking for a burnt-out filament. Here’s a tip: make sure your power supply actually matches the lamp’s wattage. I know it’s tempting to over-drive the tube to get a bit more heat, but don’t. You’ll kill the lifespan of the lamp and move much closer to a burst. Then there’s the vibration. In a loud, shaking fab environment, loose connectors are a disaster. They create arcs, which create hot spots, which eventually crack the quartz. We use precision-fit terminals so the connection stays tight, no matter how much the floor shakes. The trade-off Now, nothing is free. Adding those protective layers means a little bit of the infrared light gets blocked. You might see a 5-10% dip in raw heat compared to a completely bare tube. You’ll probably need to tweak your dwell time or bump up the power setting a hair to make up for it. Is it a slight adjustment? Sure. But it’s a tiny price to pay to make sure your entire fab doesn’t grind to a halt because of one piece of broken glass.
