
Keeping Your Wafer Drying Truly Clean
When you’re drying MEMS sensor wafers, heat is only half the battle. The real nightmare is particulate shedding. In a Class 100 cleanroom, a tiny flake of old filament or a bit of outgassed glue can wipe out an entire batch of sensors in a heartbeat. It’s frustrating, expensive, and completely avoidable. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz IR lamps. They just don’t mess around with contamination.
Why Quartz Actually Works
Most heaters use metallic housings or ceramic parts. The problem? Those materials tend to shed micro-particles over time. Our quartz lamps work differently. They use radiative heat transfer, meaning the heat jumps straight from the filament to the wafer. There’s no middleman—no medium that can leak junk onto your sensors. We use a specific grade of high-purity quartz so the glass doesn’t break down or release gases, even when things get seriously hot.
The Trade-off: Power vs. Heat
Here’s the thing: to get those lightning-fast ramp-up times you need for drying, we pack a lot of wattage into a very small space. It works. Your wafers dry fast. But that intensity comes with a catch—the lamp surface gets incredibly hot. If your cooling fans or heat sinks aren’t up to the task, you’re going to overheat your sockets or the machine frame. Before you wire these into a tight enclosure,double-check your airflow CFM. It’ll save you a massive headache later.
Making Life Easier on the Floor
We know downtime is the enemy, so we made these lamps easy to swap. We used standard connectors, so when a lamp finally burns out, you just pull it and drop in a new one. No need to spend hours recalibrating the whole array. We also treat the quartz to stop surface pitting. This keeps the heat steady across the whole wafer, which is huge for those thin MEMS membranes that warp if they hit a “hot spot.” One last tip:**keep the glass clean.**If you leave fingerprints or skin oils on the quartz during install, they’ll bake right into the glass. Once that happens, you’ve got a permanent cold spot, and you’ll have to replace the lamp. Use gloves, keep it pristine, and you’re good to go.
